Your care kit (keep in one box)

  • Soft cloth or alcohol-free wipes
  • Small brush & vent tool (often included)
  • Pack of wax guards and spare domes
  • Drying jar/dehumidifier or electronic dryer
  • Recharge case or spare batteries (size 10/13/312)
  • Label “L” and “R” markers; a small mirror
Keep the box where you charge at night — less hunting, fewer missed cleans.

Daily routine: clean • dry • charge (2 minutes)

1) Wipe

  • Remove aids. Wipe shell, microphone ports, and earpiece with a dry cloth.
  • Use the small brush to lightly sweep microphone openings.

2) Check

  • Inspect dome/tube or earmold. If wax is visible at the tip, clean or replace the guard.
  • Confirm left/right labels before storing.

3) Dry

  • Place in a drying jar or electronic dryer overnight (best in humid climates).

4) Charge or store

  • Rechargeables: seat fully in the charger; confirm lights.
  • Disposable batteries: open battery doors overnight to air-dry if not using a dryer.

Moisture & rain/sweat protection

  • Avoid showers or swimming with aids. Remove before hair spray or powder.
  • Use a sweatband/retainer for exercise or hot weather.
  • If wet: power off, remove battery (if disposable), dry exterior, and place in dryer (no heat gun).
Routine nightly drying prevents most “weak/muffled” issues, especially during monsoon or coastal humidity.

Wax guards, domes & tubes

When to change

  • Sound is softer or dead on one side.
  • Wax seen in the guard or dome tip.
  • Every 4–8 weeks as routine, sooner if waxy ears.

How to change a guard (typical system)

  • Remove dome gently to expose the guard.
  • Use the new guard stick: pull old guard out, flip stick, press new guard in, discard stick.
  • Re-fit dome firmly (match size). Tug lightly to ensure it’s secure.

If unsure of your system (CeruShield, HF3, etc.), check your brand’s leaflet or clinic video.

Fit & comfort checks

  • Dome sits flush; no sharp edges or soreness after 2–3 hours.
  • For earmolds: no rubbing or whistling when you cup your hand lightly over the ear.
  • Persistent soreness → contact clinic for refit or different dome size.
A good seal reduces feedback and improves clarity, especially in noisy places.

Phone calls & Bluetooth tips

  • Keep your phone’s Bluetooth on and the brand app updated.
  • If calls sound choppy: toggle Bluetooth off/on, then open the app; or reboot phone.
  • For TV streamers: power cycle the streamer, then reconnect in the app.
Many apps offer programs (restaurant, outdoor, TV). Save your favorites and label them clearly.

Rechargeable & battery safety

Rechargeables

  • Seat fully; green/solid light means charging. Keep charger on a surge-protected outlet.
  • For power cuts: use a small power bank if your charger supports USB.

Disposable zinc-air

  • Remove tab and wait 1–2 minutes before inserting to activate.
  • Store cool and dry; never in bathroom. Recycle used batteries safely.

Weekly deep clean (10 minutes)

  • Brush microphone ports and receiver tip thoroughly.
  • Change wax guard if buildup noted.
  • Wash earmolds/tubes with mild soapy water (if your model allows); dry completely before use.
Never use alcohol or solvents on the aid body unless your brand explicitly says it’s safe.

Troubleshooting quick fixes

ProblemLikely causeTry this
No sound Dead battery, clogged wax guard, power off Recharge/replace battery; change wax guard; confirm power switch or case lid
Muffled / weak Moisture, partial wax blockage Nightly dryer; brush tip; replace guard; ensure dome seal
Whistling (feedback) Poor seal, dome too small, earmold leak Re-seat aid; try larger dome; check for earwax; clinic refit if persists
Cuts in/out on calls Bluetooth glitch Toggle Bluetooth; reopen app; restart phone; re-pair if needed
Ear soreness Dome size/shape, dry skin Switch dome size; short breaks; tiny amount of approved lubricant; clinic if not relieved

When to get help

  • Sudden hearing drop, severe ear pain, discharge, or fever.
  • Bleeding or suspected dome stuck in ear canal.
  • Persistent dizziness or new ringing with hearing change.

Contact your audiologist/ENT urgently for these issues.

Travel & power cuts

  • Pack a travel pouch: charger or spare batteries, domes, guards, brush, dryer sachet.
  • Use a power bank if your charger supports USB; carry a plug adaptor.
  • Airport security: keep aids on; show staff the charger if asked.
